Password123 (Feedback)

Thanks for your comments. It seems that Japanese people are the same as British people when it comes to passwords!

Some of you mentioned that you use hard-to-guess passwords, but the problem is that if the password is hacked from one site, it is very easy for the criminals to just copy it if you use the same one for other sites as well. In a situation like that, it doesn’t matter how long or complicated the actual password is.

Using password-management software requires a bit of study, but it’s really quite simple when you get used to it, and I think it is worth it for the peace of mind it brings. As I said, I highly recommend the one I use. If you have an iPhone, search for mSecure on the App Store and read a little bit about it. Alternatively, you could just search for パスワード管理 on whichever system you use.

Here is some feedback on your comments.

I’m getting to feel like buying password-managing software.
I’m beginning to think that I should buy password-management software.

I can’t help thinking that if it was created by some people, it should be quite easy for them to break the code.
This is probably true, but if 90% of people are using easy passwords and only 10% are using complicated ones, the hackers are obviously just going to go for the easy 90%. It’s a bit like home security; any kind of home security system can be beaten, but if your house has even a simple system and none of the houses around it have anything at all, the burglars will just ignore your house and go for the easy targets.

Anyway, I don’t really trust any Internet security system, so I don’t have any net-bank accounts.
Online banking is a bit stressful at first, but it is definitely worth taking the time to learn it. I never visit the bank anymore, and I don’t have any bank books. All my statements can be accessed online, and I can do furikomi (direct payments), furikae (transfers), and even international remittances on my computer. Doing it all online saves me an enormous amount of time. I’m not sure what amo thinks about this, though… It might put her out of a job!

What would happen if you should forget it?
Nice use of “should.”

Having different passwords and wrote them somewhere like Anne did sounds nice but I might forget where I wrote them.
Having different passwords and writing them down somewhere …. (LOL. I have a habit of putting things in “safe” places and then completely forgetting where I’ve put them!)

I can’t control and remember many IDs and passwords.
No one can. That’s why you need password-management software.

That’s all for this week. Next week, I won’t be doing a new entry because I’m moving house. I take possession of the new house on Monday, but although it is ready to live in, there are still a lot of parts missing. For example, I only have one of the three toilets, no downstairs washbasin, and no garage door! Anyway, I will be running around like crazy next week, so the next entry will be the following week. Feel free to chat about anything you like in the meantime.

You’re moving to a new house finally. Congratulations!
It’s very unfortunate that I can’t help you with the moving or send any housewarming presents! Ha ha ha!

    Hi David,

Congratulations on your moving in to your new house♪♪♪
Thank you always for your feedback. I understand how convenient online banking must be. However, I think the biggest reason why I never get around to it is that the banks are just a 10-minute walk from my house, so I don’t really feel the inconvenience. I might feel like trying when I get very old!

By the way, yesterday was my elder son’s graduation ceremony. He was awarded two prizes; one for perfect attendance(皆勤賞), and another for his efforts in both studying and participating in sports and other school activities. My husband and I were so glad to see how much he has grown up.

    Hi David,

Sorry I haven’t written comments here for a while, but I’ve read all the comments.

    >I’m not sure what amo thinks about this, though… It might put her out of a job!

Our banking system is not that hi-tech so I don’t worry about it(lol) Although I have to admit that the number of people who come to our office is reducing little by little. I worked today but it’s not that busy than used to be, but still we open the office on Sundays for some people who want to come.
By the way, you finally move in the new house. You must be very excited!! Hope everything goes well.

    Hi Fumie,

Thanks! Best wishes for your son, too! It’s really nice to see your children grow up, isn’t it?

By the way, I’m happy to report that my son has got into his first choice national university at last. It was a long long exam season. The announcement was done online yesterday, and my son and I screamed in front of the computer.(lol!) We had sushi and champange last night. I hope it’s not a dream!

    Hi Biwa,

Congratulations on your son’s graduation and passing the entrance examination! Your husband and you must be proud of your son.
Celebrating with sushi and champagne? That’s nice.

    Hi Fumie,

Congratulations on your son’s graduation! Hope he will find what he wants to do in high school.
I’m wondering if students still sing”仰げば尊し” at the ceremony or sing a different song.

    Hi everyone,

Today is the third anniversary of Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami. Remembering what happened is one of the things that we can do. When I went out today, I saw several high school students were asking for donation for Tohoku.

  11. Biwa on Wednesday March 12th, 2014 at 10:23 AM

    Hi Fumie and Anne,

Thanks for your kind words. Surely, I feel a lot relieved at the moment, but I already feel tired just thinking about going through all this two years later! (lol!)

Regarding the graduation ceremony songs, they didn’t sing 仰げば尊しor the national anthem at my son’s school. They just sang their school song. However, I remember them singing “Yell(いきものがかり)” and “おもいでのアルバム” at elementary school. I was glad this time because I can’t help shedding tears whenever I hear those beautiful songs!

    >Today is the third anniversary of Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami.

Yes, and there are still a lot of people living in temporary houses. I really hope we don’t have to say the same thing next year.

    Hi David,

Thank you so much for your feedback. The topics on this blog are always interesting and it’s great practice for TOEFL writing!

    Hi Biwa & Fumie,

Congratulations on your sons’ graduation! Actually, I am pregnant now and my due day is March 30th, but the doctor said the baby might come earlier (between today and 30th)… I can’t wait to see my son’s graduation someday 🙂

    Hi everyone,

    How are you doing?
    >Today is the third anniversary of Tohoku earthquake and Tsunami.

Yes, I hope people who lost their families and friends heal their hearts…

    Hi Anne and Animal Farm,

Thank you for the warm message!

Oh, you can see your son soon. You must be exciting and nervous. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you will have a healthy baby!

  14. Biwa on Thursday March 13th, 2014 at 07:54 AM

    Hi Animal Farm,

Wow! Congratulations on your having a baby!
Please take care of yourself and have lots of sleep before the delivery.

By the way, did you have any baby showers? I think it’s a very nice custom where expectant mothers can learn various tips on becoming a mother from her friends. I wish we had it in Japan, too.
If any of you are interested, here’s the link to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_shower

The word “shower” means the expectant mother is showered with gifts, as in “bridal shower.” It’s a nice word, isn’t it?

  15. Animal Farm on Friday March 14th, 2014 at 10:21 AM

    Hi Fumie & Biwa,

Thank you for your lovely messages! Yes, I had a nice baby shower almost three weeks ago. I not only received so many wonderful presents, such as baby clothes, books, and a crib, but also valuable advice from many mothers.

My husband’s family and many people who work with him celebrated us. My husband is American, so his boss and his family set up this event for us. If I had married a person who were from an Asian country, I am not sure if I could have one or not….

Yes, I think it would be a great idea if Japan had the same custom.

By the way, Biwa, how did you know about the custom? Did you have one? Actually, I had no idea what a baby shower was. My Japanese and Korean friends also didn’t know about this custom when they were invited by my husband.

Thank you for the website information! Please have a great weekend, everyone!

  16. Biwa on Sunday March 16th, 2014 at 06:27 AM

    Hi Animal Farm,

    >Yes, I had a nice baby shower almost three weeks ago.

    Good for you! 🙂
Your baby is going to be very lucky by having both American and Japanese backgrounds. Please let us know about your childrearing from time to time.

Regarding baby showers, I’m not really sure why I know about it. (lol!) I didn’t have any myself, but perhaps, I learned the word and the meaning when I was living in the US. I lived there when I was 5 to 8 years old, so I don’t think I have ever been invited myself, but I remember my mother choosing a present for her friend’s baby shower. Also, I might have seen or heard the word from other adults, in shops, TV and magazines. Come to think of it, it’s interesting how unconsciously children learn new words and concepts.

    Hi everyone,

    How’s your weekend?
Yesterday, I met some friends from my sons’ school, and today, I’m going to Kamakura to do my father’s お墓参り with my family, my mother, my sister and his husband. We’re having a nice Italian lunch afterwards. I’m glad it’s a beautiful day today.

  17. Biwa on Sunday March 16th, 2014 at 06:29 AM

Sorry, “my sister and his husband” should be “my sister and HER husband”!!
