Thanks for all your comments. We ended up having two topics this week, and both are very interesting. I agree with Kattie that UKIP are seen as a right-wing party, but I think that there are a lot of people in the UK who are not particularly right-wing in their views, but who still think that the UK should leave the EU. <\/p>\n
The key problem is a lack of accountability and the eroding of democracy. A key principle of democracy is that the public can elect (and get rid of) the people who make their laws. In Europe, more and more of the law-making is being done centrally in Brussels. This means that British people (and other Europeans) have to live under laws made by people that they didn’t elect. I don’t think it is a particularly right-wing point of view to be against this. <\/p>\n
Because of the financial crisis, countries like Spain and Greece are cutting things like pensions and raising taxes. There is nothing the Greek and Spanish people can do about this because the decisions are being made by people from other countries that they do not vote for. <\/p>\n
In Britain, people voted only to join a “common market” with other European countries, and that was way back in the 1970s. Since then, there has been a lot more integration, and many people think that British people should be given a chance to decide whether they want that or not. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how it all develops. <\/p>\n

For example, I know that a lot of Japanese high schools won’t let students get a driving license even if they are old enough. In the UK, the schools would have no right to make rules about things like that. It would be for the parents to decide. I think that Japanese schools have far too much influence on family life and private time.
