It seems that Japanese people are the same as British people when it comes to passwords!

Some of you mentioned that you use hard-to-guess passwords, but the problem is that if the password is hacked from one site, it is very easy for the criminals to just copy it if you use the same one for other sites as well. In a situation like that, it doesn’t matter how long or complicated the actual password is.

Using password-management software requires a bit of study, but it’s really quite simple when you get used to it, and I think it is worth it for the peace of mind it brings. As I said, I highly recommend the one I use. If you have an iPhone, search for mSecure on the App Store and read a little bit about it. Alternatively, you could just search for パスワード管理 on whichever system you use.

Here is some feedback on your comments.

I’m getting to feel like buying password-managing software.
I’m beginning to think that I should buy password-management software.

I can’t help thinking that if it was created by some people, it should be quite easy for them to break the code.
This is probably true, but if 90% of people are using easy passwords and only 10% are using complicated ones, the hackers are obviously just going to go for the easy 90%. It’s a bit like home security; any kind of home security system can be beaten, but if your house has even a simple system and none of the houses around it have anything at all, the burglars will just ignore your house and go for the easy targets.

Anyway, I don’t really trust any Internet security system, so I don’t have any net-bank accounts.
Online banking is a bit stressful at first, but it is definitely worth taking the time to learn it. I never visit the bank anymore, and I don’t have any bank books. All my statements can be accessed online, and I can do furikomi (direct payments), furikae (transfers), and even international remittances on my computer. Doing it all online saves me an enormous amount of time. I’m not sure what amo thinks about this, though… It might put her out of a job!

What would happen if you should forget it?
Nice use of “should.”

Having different passwords and wrote them somewhere like Anne did sounds nice but I might forget where I wrote them.
Having different passwords and writing them down somewhere …. (LOL. I have a habit of putting things in “safe” places and then completely forgetting where I’ve put them!)

I can’t control and remember many IDs and passwords.
No one can. That’s why you need password-management software.

That’s all for this week. Next week, I won’t be doing a new entry because I’m moving house. I take possession of the new house on Monday, but although it is ready to live in, there are still a lot of parts missing. For example, I only have one of the three toilets, no downstairs washbasin, and no garage door! Anyway, I will be running around like crazy next week, so the next entry will be the following week. Feel free to chat about anything you like in the meantime.

[9,10
